Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Local Solar Quotes is a trading style of Local Rebate, registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) under reference ZC107920. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Local Rebate trading as Local Solar Quotes.

We are a quote-comparison service that connects UK homeowners with MCS-certified solar installers. We are not an installer and we do not carry out installation work ourselves.

For the personal information described in this policy, we are the data controller. Once we pass your details to an installer, that installer becomes an independent data controller for its own use of your information, and its own privacy policy will apply.

2. What information we collect

We only collect what we need in order to match you with suitable installers.

Information you give us in the quote form

• Contact details — your first name, last name, email address and UK phone number.
• Property details — your property address and postcode, whether you own the property, your property type, and whether you already have solar panels.
• Enquiry details — your approximate monthly electricity bill, the setup you are interested in (for example panels only, or panels with a battery), and how you are thinking of paying.

Information we collect automatically

• Technical and usage data — IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed and the date and time of your visit.
• Campaign data — marketing tracking parameters (UTM tags, Google click identifiers such as GCLID, and the referring website) so we know which advert or link brought you to us.
• Submission data — the page address you submitted the form from and the date and time you submitted it.

We do not knowingly collect any special category data (such as health, ethnicity or political opinions), and we do not ask for financial account details, card numbers or credit-check information through this website.

3. How we collect it

• Directly from you when you complete our multi-step quote form.
• Automatically through cookies and similar technologies when you use the site.
• From third parties such as advertising and analytics providers (for example Google), and address-lookup services used to help you enter your address accurately.

Our address field uses the Google Places API to suggest addresses as you type. What you type into that field is sent to Google in order to return suggestions. Google’s handling of that data is covered by the Google Privacy Policy.

4. Why we use it, and our lawful basis

Under UK GDPR we must have a lawful basis for using your personal information. Ours are set out below.

When you submit the form you agree to be contacted by up to three MCS-certified installers about your enquiry. We record the wording you agreed to, along with the date and time, as evidence of that consent.

5. Who we share it with

• MCS-certified solar installers in our network — a maximum of three per enquiry, chosen because they cover your area and can service your request. They use your details to contact you about your quote and become independent controllers of that data.
• Service providers who work on our behalf — for example our website host, form and spreadsheet providers (including Google Workspace and Google Sheets), CRM and automation tools, and email or SMS delivery providers. These act as processors under contract and may only use your data on our instructions.
• Analytics and advertising providers — such as Google, to measure advert performance. See section 7.
• Professional advisers, regulators or law enforcement — where we are legally required to disclose information, or need to establish or defend legal claims.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with unrelated third parties for their own marketing.

6. Marketing communications

We may send you occasional updates about solar offers and related services where you have agreed to receive them, or where you have made an enquiry and we have a legitimate interest in following up.

You can opt out at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any email, replying STOP to a text message, or emailing us at privacy@localsolarquotes.co.uk. Opting out of marketing does not stop messages that relate directly to a quote you have already requested.

Installers in our network are responsible for their own marketing. If you want an installer to stop contacting you, please tell that installer directly, and let us know so we can update our records.

7. Cookies, advertising and analytics

Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use them to make the site work and to understand how it performs.

• Strictly necessary — needed for the form and the site to function, including remembering your progress through the quote steps. These cannot be switched off.
• Analytics — help us understand which pages people use and where they drop out, so we can improve the experience.
• Advertising and conversion measurement — used by Google Ads and similar platforms to report which adverts led to an enquiry, and to show relevant adverts on other sites.

We also record marketing parameters attached to the link you arrived on (such as UTM tags and Google click identifiers) so we can attribute your enquiry to the right campaign.

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. You can opt out of personalised Google advertising at adssettings.google.com. Blocking cookies may affect how parts of this site work.

8. How long we keep it

• Enquiry and contact details — kept for up to 24 months from your last interaction with us, so we can handle queries and show that consent was given.
• Consent records — kept for up to 6 years, in line with the usual limitation period for claims.
• Website analytics data — typically kept in aggregated or pseudonymised form for up to 26 months.

When we no longer need your information we delete it or anonymise it so it can no longer identify you. You can ask us to erase your details sooner — see section 11.

9. Where your information is stored

Your information is stored on servers in the UK and the European Economic Area (EEA) wherever possible. Some of our providers — including Google — may process data outside the UK or EEA.

Where information is transferred outside the UK, we make sure it is protected by an appropriate safeguard, such as UK adequacy regulations, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

10. How we protect it

This website is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection, and form submissions are transmitted securely. We restrict access to enquiry data to the people who need it, use reputable providers with their own security controls, and review our arrangements periodically.

No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach occurs that is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify the ICO, and you, as required by law.

11. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

• Be informed about how we use your personal data — which is what this policy is for.
• Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Rectification — have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected.
• Erasure — ask us to delete your data where there is no good reason for us to keep it.
• Restrict processing — ask us to pause how we use your data while a concern is resolved.
• Data portability — receive the data you gave us in a structured, machine-readable format.
• Object — including an absolute right to object to direct marketing at any time.
• Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting anything we did before you withdrew it.
• Not be subject to solely automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects. We do not carry out this kind of decision-making.

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@localsolarquotes.co.uk. We will respond within one month. There is normally no charge, and we may ask you to verify your identity before we act.

12. Children

This service is intended for UK homeowners aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us their details, contact us and we will delete them.

13. Other websites

This site links to third-party websites, including those of installers, review platforms and manufacturers. We are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices, and we encourage you to read their privacy policies before giving them your information.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our service or the law. The current version always appears on this page with the “last updated” date at the top. If we make a significant change, we will take reasonable steps to let you know.
